Lucy L. Brubaker of Mechanicsburg, PA, entered into eternal rest on December 18, 2013, after a lengthy and debilitating illness.

She was born April 5, 1938, to Dr. Paul G. and Mrs. Mary Lenhert of Arcanum, Ohio. She attended Messiah Academy and College at Grantham, PA, and Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH, earning a B.S. degree in Home Economics. She then enrolled at University of Pennsylvania School of Allied Medical Sciences, where she completed training as an Occupational Therapist.

In 1962 she married Samuel M. Brubaker, who survives her. After several years’ employment at Magee Rehabilitation Center in Philadelphia, she became fulltime homemaker. Her children are Karen, married to Timothy Haldeman, Grantville, PA; Winifred, married to Jonathan Haggard, Norristown, PA; and Philip, married to Sarah Morice-Brubaker, Tulsa, OK. In 1973 Lucy and her husband established residence in Arcanum, OH.

In addition to her homemaking, she was active as a volunteer in various arenas. She was a life-long member of the Brethren in Christ Church and served various roles in Christian Education at Fairview Congregation in Englewood, Ohio. She served Darke County Youth for Christ as a board member. She was a longtime active member of the Arcanum Garden Club and was an active promoter of Brethren in Christ World Missions.

Lucy will be remembered as an event organizer, an excellent seamstress and cook, and a lover of flowers. With her husband, she enjoyed travel to many places. In 2002 they moved to Pennsylvania, where she continued similar pursuits until overtaken by disabling dementia.

In addition to her husband and three children, she is survived by granddaughters Katrina Haldeman, Lydia Haggard, Alicia Haggard, and Aliyyah Haggard; and grandsons Nathan Morice-Brubaker and Micah Morice-Brubaker. A grandson Peter Haldeman preceded her in death. Also surviving are her sister Esther Lenhert of Arcanum, and brothers Samuel and P. Galen, both of Mechanicsburg, PA.

The family will receive friends for visitation 6-8 Saturday evening Dec. 28, 2013 at Cocklin Funeral Home, 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg, PA; and 3 p.m. Sunday Dec. 29 at Brethren in Christ Church, Grantham, PA. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Dec. 29, 2013 at the Grantham Church.

Reception of friends and interment will occur at Englewood, at the convenience of the family.
