Helen W. Geddes, 97 of Greenville formerly of Centerville, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband W. Hayward Geddes and her parents Harold A. Sr. and Olive (Dull) Withrow. Helen is survived by two sisters Martha Deeter and Jeanne Barr, several nieces and nephews. She was the owner – operator of Withrow Secretarial Services in the Dayton area from the early 1940’s to the late 1980’s, was a 1932 graduate of Palestine High School and a 1939 graduate of Miami Jacobs Business School.

Helen was also a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and Altrusa of Dayton.

Christine A. Alexander, 70, of Hollansburg, passed away on March 25, 2014 at State of the Heart Hospice in Wayne HealthCare. Christine was born on Jan. 12, 1944 in Bamburg, Germany to the late Phillip and Anna (Schultz) Dorscht.

Christine was a retired custodian from Tri Village Schools after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, Greenville Eagles, Greenville Moose and the Hollansburg American Legion Post 708. Christine loved to dance, garden, cook and watch her grandchildren play baseball. She also made prize winning cinnamon rolls at the fair. A very special time in Christine's life was when she became an United States citizen.

In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sylvia Flatter and a brother, Andreas Dorscht.

She is survived by her husband, Barry Alexander of Hollansburg; two sons, Kenny and Gail Flatter of Hollansburg, and Tom and Stacy Flatter of New Madison; five grandsons, three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends in Germany.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville. Burial will follow in Hollansburg Cemetery. The family request memorial contributions be given to American Legion Post 708 in Hollansburg.

Jerry Odell Thacker, 64, of Arcanum, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. He was born in Richmond, KY on April 8, 1949 to his parents, Toy Chester and Elizabeth “Betty” (Liford) Thacker, who preceded him in death along with siblings Imagene Grant and Jewel Fetters, and sister-in-law, Irene Thacker.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Thacker (Vincent); daughter Abra (Steve) Cutforth; son, Jesse (Torrissa Trevino) Thacker; brothers, Bill (Sheryl) Thacker and Monroe Thacker; and sister Geraldine (Bob) McCuiston; and many amazing grandchildren.

Jerry served in the 3rd Battalion 26th Marine Regiment of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action, earning a Purple Heart. He married his high school sweetheart and raised his family while serving as postmaster in Pitsburg, OH. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, hunting, fishing, playing guitar, tending his abundant garden and hosting BBQs in his orchard.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 5, 11 a.m., Transfiguration Catholic Church, 972 S Main Street, West Milton, Ohio 45383. A gathering/meal will follow at the church.

Lucinda “Cindy” Jay Boyer, 45, of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 4:52 p.m. at Reid Memorial Hospital, Richmond, IN. She was born Aug. 4, 1968 in Greenville, the daughter of Jay and Naoma (Lenker) Voke of Greenville. She worked at the Payless warehouse in Brookville. She attended Beech Grove Church of the Brethren; cherished being involved with her daughter; and loved gardening, food trees, and making maple syrup.

She is preceded in death by her brothers: Clay Voke and Kim Voke; niece: Jessica Westfall.

She is survived by her husband: Paul F. Boyer of Greenville whom she married May 31, 2002; daughter: Ashley Marie Smith of Arcanum; sisters: Gay Voke of Tennessee and Tonya Westfall of Greenville.

Gwili “Jill” Cox, 80, Union City, Ind. passed away peacefully Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. She fought hard for six years, but her sharp mind and strong disposition were unable to overcome the cancer consuming her body.

She was born May 21, 1933 to the late Herb and Mary “Lucille” Snider in Union City, Ind. where she lived her entire life.

Jill married Richard “Dick” Jordan on December 25, 1953 and she shared many great years with Dick’s wit and great sense of humor until his passing in 1981. She remarried to Richard “Dub” Yost of Winchester, Ind. who passed in 2003.

Jill leaves to cherish her memory; husband Kenny Cox of Union City, Ind., children; Herb Jordan of Satelite Beach, FL, Tonda Jordan of Cumming, GA, Marla Meeks of Dunkirk, IN, Chad (Stacy) Jordan of Union City, OH, Dave (Jeanie) Hollopeter and Melinda Cox both of Union City, IN. 5 Grandchildren; Maria, Michael, Mackenzie, Nathan and Jalisa. 5 Great grandchildren; Haley, Isaac, Brayden, Joshua and Rylee. Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday March 12, 2014 at the Union City Cemetery with a Church service at 11 a.m., at the Community Fellowship Church with the Pastor Rodger Garland officiating. A meal will follow at the church that all are invited to attend where the celebration of Jill’s life may continue.

William “Bill” Hoop, 66 of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 10:45 p.m., at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. He was born Nov. 2, 1947 in Buckeye, AZ the son of Mildred (Roberts) Hoop and the late William G. Hoop.

He served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 on the U.S.S. McCaffery during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Greenville V.F.W., American Legion Post 140.

He is preceded in death by his father; brothers: David Hoop, Timothy Hoop.

Thomas “Tom” Brown Troxell III, age 56, of Union City, went to be with his Heavenly Father Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Reid Hospital and Healthcare Services, Richmond, IN.

Tom was born July 28, 1957, in Trotwood, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas Brown Troxell II and Mary (Smock) Troxell, who survives. He married Brenda Good on May 12, 1979, and she survives.

Tom was a member of EUM Church in Greenville, Stephen Minister, Ahead of Light Team, and was very involved in the Men’s Ministry. He enjoyed reading and music, and loved being outdoors enjoying nature.

Survivors include: wife, Brenda Troxell of Union City, Indiana; mother, Mary Troxell of Union City, Indiana; three sons, Trent (Salina Hoque) Troxell of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Tyler (Kayla Battishill) Troxell of Marion, Indiana, and Trey (Amy) Troxell of Ridgeville, Indiana; brother, Tim (Melanie) Troxell of Selma, Indiana; sister, Kathy Brophy of Union City, Indiana; twin grandchildren on the way, Treb & Townsen; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the EUM Church, 1451 Sater Street, Greenville, with Pastor Sylvia McKibben and Pastor Matt Haupt officiating.

Burial will follow funeral services in Union City Cemetery, Union City, Indiana.

BLICKENSTAFF

Delbert David Blickenstaff, 92, passed away February 26, 2014, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. His life’s work was being a medical doctor in family practice in Versailles and in Greenville at Family Health. Delbert had the ability to visualize what needed to be done and also the ability to carry it through. With two other people he started Family Health in the early 1970’s. In 1969 he arranged for fathers to be present in the delivery room at Wayne Hospital. In 1976 he started the dinner theater program at Oakland Church of the Brethren, and over the years he enjoyed acting and directing plays and musicals with several community theater groups. More recently he worked with a group to form the Senior Scribes and has written many stories that have been published in the newspaper.

Delbert was the son of the late Lloyd and Marie Blickenstaff. Delbert’s wife since 1944 is Louise Rust Blickenstaff. Their four children are Theron Blickenstaff, M.D. (wife Susan Bland, M.D.), JoEllen Zerkle (husband Curt Zerkle), Jeff Blickenstaff, M.D. (wife Debora Blickenstaff), and Jonathon Blickenstaff (wife Angela Denov). They have fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Delbert had a twin brother and a younger brother who are deceased and has a living sister. There are many nieces and nephews.

Delbert graduated from Manchester University in 1947 and University of Oregon Medical School in 1956. During World War II he was in Civilian Public Service.

The memorial service will be held at Oakland Church of the Brethren on Monday, March 24, at 2:00 P.M. Memorials may be sent to the Brethren Retirement Community, Oakland Church of the Brethren, or State of the Heart Hospice.

For Delbert’s last gift, he gave his body to Wright State University Medical School.

David Andrew Skiles, 75, of Bradford, died at 1:50 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 as the result of a fall at his home. David’s loving wife of 54 years, Dixie Lea (Linder) was at his side when he passed away.

He is also survived by his children, Lynette Foureman (husband Kevin) of Arcanum, and Michael Skiles of West Milton; and a granddaughter, Hannah Foureman and her boyfriend, Josh Smith of Cincinnati. David’s surviving sisters are Virginia Bowman (husband Vaden), of Virginia; Jeanette Skiles, of Versailles; and Marie Matthew (husband Matt), of Florida.

David was a member of the Greenville Fraternal Order of Eagles and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, also in Greenville; a graduate of the School of Meat Cutting in Toledo; and was a long time employee of B.F. Goodrich in Troy. David and Dixie ran their own meat shop for a number of years, but he has enjoyed retirement since 2000 filling his time with camping at Kozy Kampground in Celina, where he was so proud to have so many friends. He also enjoyed reading, helping Dixie around the house, and making a daily visit to Patty’s grocery store in Bradford.

David is preceded in death by his parents, John Andrew and Katura Skiles; and his brothers Roy Skiles and Marion Skiles, all of Gettysburg.

David has very generously donated his body to Wright State University School of Medicine. Condolences may be sent to his wife, Dixie and a memorial service may be announced at a later time. Dixie would like to thank her neighbors, Curt and Arlene Rolle and the Bradford EMS for their valiant efforts in trying to keep David with us.

Ruby V. Young, 99, of Greenville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville. She was born March 27, 1914 in Red River, Ohio the daughter of the late John Earl and Daisy Amanda (Wion) Fenstermaker. She worked as a Nurses Aid at the Greenville Hospital for 20 years retiring in 1984. She was a member of First United Methodist Church; Greenville Area Senior Citizens.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: James Young; grandson: Shawn Dohme; brothers: Lawrence, Doyle, and John Fenstermaker; sisters: Iona Anthony, Lucille Baker.

She is survived by her children and spouses: Lois Schuh of Greenville, Carol and Dennis Forte of Greenville, and Galen and Shirley Dohme of Union City, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Lavonne (Krick) “Wetzel” Good, 85, passed away peacefully at home among family and friends on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. She was born August 7, 1928 to the late Walter E. and Lula B. (Wilkey) Krick.

She was also preceded in death by her husband William F. “Fred” Wetzel Nov. 11, 1962 and husband Wesley J. “Jim” Good on April 17, 1986.

Lavonne was a Corning Retiree and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Women of the Moose all of Greenville and participated in various bridge clubs.

Lavonne will always be remembered as a loving and cheerful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to those who knew her.

Lavonne is survived by Doyle L. Mills, to whom she was married in the face of God on Nov. 26, 1997; a son Douglas A. (Annette) Wetzel of Owensboro, KY; step children, Michael R. (Bonnie) Good of Greenville; Melinda L. Weaver of Colon, Michigan; Mark A. (Denise) Good of Greenville; Scott L. (Janice) Mills of Greenville and Vicki (John) Serna of Greenfield, IN; granddaughters, Langley Wetzel and Larkin Wetzel; step grandchildren, Brian (Barbara Arnold) Good, Jason (Melissa) Good, Nathan (Cala) Weaver, Jody (Tyler) Stump, Janelle (Keith) Koverman, Tina (Bill) Van Bebber, Mark Alexander, Laurie Alexander, Kevin (Leslie) Alexander, Steve (Matohya Sowry) Mills, and Ann (Johnny Fults) Mills; her sister and best friend, Janice (Lowell “Bud”) House of Greenville; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 in the First United Methodist Church, 202 West Fourth St., Greenville, with Pastor Angela Meeks officiating.
